In the latest Marvel film, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Weta Digital created some breathtaking VFX dragons. The dragons are a mix of practical effects and digital effects, and they look so real that it’s hard to believe they’re not actually there. The team at Weta Digital did an incredible job creating these creatures, and their work is sure to impress moviegoers everywhere.
Weta Digital handled a wide swath of the film’s creature and environment work for this Shang-Chi VFX breakdown, including the Great Protector u2014 the benevolent dragon that guards the hidden village of Ta Lo u2014 and the shadowy, soul-eating Dweller-in-Darkness that emerges in the third act. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings marked the character’s first solo outing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and leaned heavily on wuxia-inspired martial arts choreography blended with large-scale digital creature work.
