In Terminator: Genisys, a young Terminator T800 VFX sequence pits a digitally recreated 1984 Arnold Schwarzenegger against an older version of himself. Watch how they made it possible.

MPC, led by VFX supervisor Sheldon Stopsack, spent roughly a year building the young T-800 for a five-minute sequence — about 35 fully digital shots recreating the character’s arrival at Griffith Observatory, lifted shot-for-shot from the original 1984 film. Stuntman Brett Azar performed on set as a physical reference, with Schwarzenegger’s likeness, built from a 1984 body cast, mapped on top in post.
