This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and what you can do about it.
What we collect and why
Comments
When you leave a comment we collect the name, email address, and website you type into the form. We also collect your IP address and browser user agent string. Both are used for spam detection.
Comments are filtered by Akismet, an automated spam service run by Automattic. The data you submit with a comment is sent to Akismet for that check. Their privacy policy is at automattic.com/privacy.
An anonymized hash of your email address may be sent to Gravatar to check whether you use the service. If you do, your Gravatar image appears next to your approved comment.
Email subscriptions
If you subscribe to new posts by email, we collect your email address. Subscriptions are handled by Jetpack, also run by Automattic. Every email includes an unsubscribe link.
Email you send us
If you email us with a tip, a correction, or a question, we keep the message and your address so we can reply and keep a record of the exchange.
Media
If you upload an image to the site, avoid files with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors can download images and extract that data.
Server logs
Our web host records standard server logs: IP address, time of request, the URL requested, the referring page, and the user agent. We use these for security and troubleshooting only.
Cookies
We use cookies to remember your comment details, keep administrators signed in, serve cached pages, measure traffic, and deliver ads. Our Cookie Policy lists each one with its purpose and lifetime.
Embedded content from other websites
Posts include embedded video and other content from YouTube, Vimeo, and similar services. Embedded content behaves as if you had visited the other site directly. Those sites can set cookies, run additional tracking, and monitor how you interact with the embed, including whether you are logged in to them.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4, connected through the Site Kit plugin, to measure traffic. It records pages viewed, approximate location derived from your IP address, device and browser type, and the site that referred you. Jetpack Stats records similar traffic figures. We do not use analytics to identify individual visitors.
Advertising
We display ads through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technology to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and others. You can manage personalized advertising at myadcenter.google.com and opt out of participating vendors at optout.aboutads.info.
Affiliate links
Some links on this site are affiliate links, mainly to Amazon. If you buy through one we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Clicking an affiliate link hands you to the retailer, who then applies their own cookies and privacy policy. See our Affiliate Disclosure.
Who we share your data with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the service providers needed to run the site:
- Automattic, for Akismet spam filtering, Jetpack stats and subscriptions, and Gravatar
- Google, for Analytics, AdSense, and Search Console through Site Kit
- JetHost, our web host
- Amazon and other retailers, when you click an affiliate link
We may also disclose data where the law requires it.
How long we keep your data
Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely, so follow-up comments from the same person can be approved automatically. Registration is closed, but any existing account profile is kept until the account is deleted. Email subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Server logs are kept on a short rolling window set by our host.
What rights you have over your data
If you have commented, subscribed, or emailed us, you can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to erase it. Email admin@hollywoodcgfx.com. We cannot erase data we are required to keep for legal or security reasons.
Visitors in the EU and UK
The GDPR gives you the right to access, correct, erase, restrict, and object to processing of your data, and the right to data portability. Our legal basis is your consent for comments, subscriptions, and non-essential cookies, and legitimate interest for site security, spam prevention, and basic traffic measurement. You can withdraw consent at any time. You may also complain to your national data protection authority.
Visitors in California
Under the CCPA and CPRA you can request to know what personal information we collect, request its deletion, and request correction. We do not sell personal information for money. Advertising cookies set by Google may count as sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising under California law; the opt-out links in the Advertising section above let you turn that off. We will not treat you differently for making a request.
Where we send your data
Comments are checked by an automated spam detection service. Data handled by our host and the services listed above may be processed on servers in the United States.
How we protect your data
The site runs over HTTPS. Administrator access is limited and password protected. We keep WordPress, plugins, and the theme updated, and we block common automated attacks and scanners at the server level.
Data breach procedure
If we find a breach affecting personal data, we will investigate it, close the hole, and notify the people affected and any authority the law requires, within the time the law allows.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has given us data, email us and we will delete it.
Automated decision making
We do not profile visitors or make automated decisions about them, beyond the automated spam scoring applied to comments.
Changes to this policy
We update this policy when the site changes. The date at the top shows the last revision.
