This Cloverfield VFX making of runs about 22 minutes, with scene-by-scene breakdowns of set extension, match move, camera tracking and the CG creature itself. Directed by Matt Reeves and produced by J.J. Abrams, Cloverfield (2008) told its found-footage monster story almost entirely through a single handheld camera, which meant the effects team had to sell every shot through shaky, degraded, in-universe footage rather than polished cinematography. Will there be a Cloverfield 2? we sure hope so, because we would love to see the mama monster leave NY and destroy Hollywood.
